Today I decided to give the Messengers of News spread another try. I didn’t feel like I needed a message from all four Pages this time so limited my focus to the areas of Projects (Batons) and Finance (Deniers).
Valet de Bastons – Roy de Couppes – Valet d’espee
When I look at the three cards which make up the Projects row, my eye is drawn to the fact that there is one central object in each. The Page holds his baton, the King holds his goblet and both fix their gaze on the central sword. Here the young Page seems to be offering the rough, barely shaped baton up for inspection. ‘What do you think of my work so far?’ he says to the King. Unfortunately, the King is only half-interested. His body is turned towards the young page but his head looks to the swords. ‘You have some way to go before you can fashion a goblet as fine as mine. Perhaps you need to find better tools. Something sharp which will cut your labour in half if you wield it wisely.’
The message is clear that creating something is a labour of love but it’s wise to make sure you have the tools and training to make lighter work of it.
Valet de Denier – Chevalier de Deniers – IX de Couppes
In this set, it looks like the Page has thrown a coin and the Knight is pursuing it doggedly. He certainly isn’t in any real hurry. There is a need for patience here. Both of them are looking for something with financial potential – trying to ‘follow the money’. The mistake may be that they are fixed on one solution while the Cups indicate that there are many possible options. It may be that our poor Knight arrives and loses sight of what he is looking for. The four arrow-like arrangement seem to say ‘concentrate on this one’. It stresses the importance of having a clear financial goal in mind and not getting distracted by all the tempting bling.
Keep it simple, keep it focussed.
It’s interesting that both spreads also had a court card of higher rank suggesting more experienced heads will collaborate in these areas.
